2025 HOCO Week One

2029

The Crabs 2029 team lost their first game of the season 10-5 to the previous Champion, Next Level. While the score on paper does not look great, the game was a hard fought and even battle for 3 quarters and a half quarters and Next Level was able to pull away late in the game.

A quick shout out to our man down defensive unit which played an unbelievable game, killing every man up opportunity for Next Level and also killing a 2-minute non-releasable penalty! Truly a great sign of teamwork and desire on man down which is exactly what we need!

1st quarter - Crabs defense and goaltending was stifling in the first quarter only allowing 1 goal with Next Level having most of the possessions. The Crabs were physical, had good rotations as a defensive unit, and were able to clear the ball effectively. Our defense was also responsible for 1 of the 2 goals scored in the first quarter with a slick move from Will Lutz to get past the defense at the midline and take the ball all the way to the house hitting 3 pipes for his first goal of the year! The offense played well 6v6 when we got into our sets and dodged and moved the ball. Our first goal of the game came off an assist from Wyatt Lawder who did a great job dodging hard and drawing 2 defenders which left Dylan Story wide open for a 12 yard rip.

2nd quarter - The second quarter was another low scoring and defensive back and forth battle. The only Crabs left a couple goals on the field which could have been a game changer later in the game. A few turnovers allowed Next Level to maintain possession again for most of the second quarter, but the defense only allowed 2 goals while again playing physical and continuing to rotate effectively. Our offense was only able to convert 1 goal off of a broken set play, but Kai Geesaman was able to get the ground ball and get upfield to rip one past the keeper, keeping the game all even at 3-3 heading into the second half.

3rd quarter - Again the defense made a big stop and clear from the first possession of the second half with Owen Mest scooping up a gritty ground ball and clearing it himself. We were able to convert our first possession with another assist from Wyatt Lawder feeding Kai Geesaman slipping to the back pipe for an easy dunk right on the crease! Quickly after that, 2 bad double attempts got the defense out of position and Next Level was able to answer right back, keeping the game tied at 4-4. Next Level was able to score again on their next possession due to a mismatch after a ground ball battle and getting their first lead 5-4. Again Next Level scored on their next possession from a 2 man game on the low wing and catching our defenders out of position. After some more back and forth and the boys needing a little juice, Joaquin Davalos was able to get just enough separation from his defender to get his hands free but enough to draw the slide, continued his dodge down the alley and stuck a goal top shelf! This would end the scoring and take us into the 4th quarter down 6-5.

4th quarter - In the fourth quarter the Crabs were unable to stop Next Level as they put in 4 goals to seal the game. A couple ground balls that didn’t come our way, a few out of position mistakes that led to easy goals, an offside flag, and a couple of shots got past us that we know we will get back next time we play them. It wasn’t until 5 minutes left in the 4th that the game got away from us and wanting to win and play fast, some bad habits took over a little bit.

The Crabs look to take on True Nova next outing and are feeling positive. Cleaning up a few mistakes, cherishing the ball more on offense and getting more solid 6v6 possessions, and continuing to play the kind of defense we were able to show for 35 of the 40 minutes from this weekend will be our recipe for success moving forward!

2030

The 2030 Crabs started off the season with an amazing team dinner at Sammy’s Trattoria (thanks to Coach Sammy Curreri from the 2033 Crabs team), which got the team hyped and prepped for the game against Predators 2030. With the first game in the 2030 Hoco season, Crabs overcame the Predators 12-3.

Jonathan Kim did an amazing job getting the Crabs possession by winning almost every faceoff, and the offense capitalized on the possession by finding the back of the net. Mikey Cuches led the team in goals scoring 4, followed by Nathan Snyder and Luke Miller each scoring 2, and Elijah Baydarian, Ben Cravens, Will Stout, and Jules Greschler each with 1 goal to round out a total of 12 goals for the team. The team had 6 assists in total with Ben Cravens having 2, and Luke Miller, Alex Levinson, Will Stout, and Jules Greschler each with1.

Our defense dominated this weekend, only letting up 3 goals. Cooper Goloboski, Charlie Rotenberry, and Robert Perez made incredible saves and cleared the ball well. Our team swept up groundballs, with almost every player getting a ground ball and Owen Mengel, Jonothan Kim, and Will Stout leading the way. Our defenders intimidated the offensive players on Predators creating multiple turnovers with Cannon Griffith leading with 3 turnovers, and Owen Mengel, Conrad Henggler, Brady Ward, and John Rooney each having one.

Overall, Crabs 2030 came away with a strong win, setting the tone for an amazing season ahead. This team plays with grit, poise, and constant teamwork, and we will continue to work hard in order to dominate for the rest of the season.

2031

"A tie is not a defeat, it's a testament to the strength and resilience of both teams, a reminder that the game is still alive, and that there's always more to be learned and achieved."

The 2031 crew certainly came away having learned that to be victorious you must play from that first whistle until the very last. The boys ended in a tie, even after a round of overtime. They got off to a fast start and went up 7-1 to a friendly foe, the Annapolis Hawks. That would be all they could muster, and they did not net another goal during the entire second half or overtime! Goal scorers early in the contest were Colin Lally, Dylan Keller, Finn Kernan, Trevor Smith, and Trey Grace. Colton Pyle and Teddy Furrer were outstanding at the dot, winning nearly all faceoffs. Ryder Radebaugh and Carson McClure shared time in goal, both having fantastic saves to include a couple in overtime on the doorstep. Back to the lab this week to learn and grow. Next up is the Clippers Blue team, and this team will be hungry for a win (in regulation!)

2032

Crabs vs Hawks – Elite Debut

Crabs 2032 made their debut in the Elite division this weekend, taking on a tough and experienced Hawks squad. This game marked an exciting new chapter and an important first step in our transition to elite-level play.

Anders (13) put Crabs on the board with our first goal of the season, finishing a sharp assist from Nathan (98). Will (35) followed with a strong unassisted goal, showing grit and determination on the offensive end. Across the field, our offense was relentless in groundball battles, and our defense worked hard to protect the goal and push clears under pressure. Our goalies stood tall, facing a high volume of shots and doing everything they could to keep the ball out of the cage.

This game gave us a true taste of the speed, intensity, and precision that define elite-level lacrosse. We now have a clear picture of the foundation we need to build upon—and we’re ready to rise to the challenge this season. Final score: Hawks 16, Crabs 2.

2033

The 2033 Crabs started the season off with an exciting win against the Hawks. We won in overtime with a score of 5-4.

The first quarter, the Crabs started off a little slow, with the Hawks leading 2-1. The first goal was made by Domenic Cardile, with an assist from Jake Levinson. Quinn Nicolini had four amazing saves, and our team fought hard for groundballs and forced turnovers by Holden Miller, Jake Levinson, Rocco Curreri, Henry Incontrera, and George Zarukaev.  By halftime, the Crabs tied it up at 2-2 after 2 more saves by Quinn Nicolini, and Truce Frank scoring late in the second quarter.

Our defense dominated the entire game keeping the Crabs in the game. During the third quarter, the Crabs offense ramped up with Tillman Weaver, and Ronan Brown fighting hard to keep the ball on the offensive end. Cole Kauffman scored 2 awesome goals with one assist from Reese Spilker and one assist from Thomas Mink. Nolan Hardesty stayed strong in the goal with 6 saves only allowing 1 in and ending the third quarter with a score of 4-3. In the fourth quarter, however, the Hawks were able to get one more goal, even though our defense and goalie continued to play amazingly with strong clears by Nolan Hardesty and John Osgood, and more turnovers and ground balls from Thomas Mink, Truce Frank, Bradley Pitts, Reese Spilker, Harrison Manske, and Holden Lombardi. Regulation time ended with a tie score of 4-4, and we got ourselves pumped up for overtime.

In overtime, the Hawks got the first possession, but our defense fought hard and turned the ball over. On the offensive end, Jake Levinson was able to draw the penalty, and we went into EMO. With tensions high, the Crabs were able to pull off the win with Vinci Curreri scoring the winning goal off an assist from Domenic Cardile.

It was a hard-fought win against a rival that we have not yet beat… but this is just the beginning of what is going to be an amazing season for the Crabs 2033 team.

2034

The’ 34 Crabbies kicked off their first game of the season with a close game against the Annapolis Hawks. Keegan Castle started off fast and furious throughout the mid-field moving the ball well. This led him to score our first goal of the season unassisted at 3:24 into the game for a fast lead. The Hawks answered back quickly leaving the score 1:1 coming out of the first quarter. The second quarter the Crabbies had trouble finding the back of the goal and the Hawks scored two times leaving the score at 3 to 1, Hawks. The third quarter brought unassisted goals from midfielders Cam Peichert and Briar Cooper.  The momentum accelerated in the fourth quarter and the game got very exciting. CT Stoker assisted a goal to Logan Woodford, Koa Knapp had a long clear to Logan Woodford for another goal and Briar Cooper found the back of the net for a second time making the score 6 to 7, Hawks. We had the ball with two minutes to go with a chance to tie it but unfortunately, despite some great chances, the Hawks goalie came up with some terrific saves and the Crabs couldn’t find the back of the net. The Hawks scored as time expired during an aggressive attempt to recover the ball making the final score Crabs 6, Hawks 8. Strong defense from John Mest, Tiernan Norman, Hudson Washburn and Keegan McGinn all game, slowed down a very strong Hawks attack. Ryder Woodward never lost focus in goal and finished with 11 saves. Great effort for our first game. Looking forward to a wonderful season for these players! Go Crabs!

2035

It was a rough introduction to the HoCo league for the youngest group of Crabs as they faced a tough Next Level team to start the season.  It was apparent from the first whistle that the Next Level team were doing lacrosse drills in the womb as they proved to have "next level" lacrosse skills for 8-year-olds. However, our Crabs never hung their heads and kept fighting the entire game!  The 35s struggled to win grounds balls which is always problematic and while we often won the clamp on the faceoff, we had a tough time coming up with the ball.  Our opponents were bigger but we hung tough, had some great defensive stops and learned a lot about the level and speed of play we will be facing.  Our coaches showed tremendous patience, provided lots of in-game instruction and kept the spirits high! Teddy Nee stayed strong inside the cage all day and had some impressive stops.  Benjy Burgess scored the Crab's lone goal off a forced turnover and ground ball.  Overall, it was a good learning experience, the sun was shining and it can truly only go up from here! Go Crabs!
